Staff - IB workshop on “Play based Learning”
Children have a hundred languages, a hundred hands, a hundred ideas, a hundred ways of thinking, playing, and talking. As teachers, what is our image of the child? What does the teacher look like in the eyes of the child? How can we set up our learning environment to help children come to understanding of our unit of inquiry? On April 4, Emily and Cady shared the insights of the “Play Based Learning” workshop with our staff. Through many different forms, teachers discuss and come to understand that the essential elements should be at the center of all learning in the classroom. We focused on how to make our learning corners developmentally appropriate and discussed how to meet the needs and interests of the children in our class. At the heart of our discussion was the idea that children are capable and competent, and it is our job as teachers to stand side by side with them as they learn through play.
